Beer pumps by the Meuse at Le Clos Belle Rose

LE Clos Belle rose

Le Clos belle rose

Julien Dejente

Haybes, Green way, Huge garden, views over the Meuse. Deckchairs, terrace, parasols. Bikes laid down to rest. Sheep grazing like silent lawn-mowers... an ideal place to pause.

Encourage encounters, sharing, exchanges.

Le Clos Belle Rose: cyclists on the terrace overlooking the Meuse

In fine weather, the terrace is open to passers-by for coffee, soft drinks or platters of local cooked meats. Or even a Hayboise or Stockport beer, brewed in the micro-brewery.

At then end of the path looms a large building: Le Clos Belle Rose., a beautiful townhouse dating from 1880, that now contains a charming gîte with large living rooms and five bedrooms with fairytale decor.

La Roseraie next door has four guest bedrooms. All guests are served a buffet breakfast mainly made up of local produce.

Two worlds but the same spirit. Welcoming and exchanging information with his guests are priorities for Julien Dejente, who is an attentive host.

Julien recommends: La Maison des Randonnées

Located a stone's throw from the Meuse on the edge of the forest, this is an ideal start point for a cycle ride or a walk. Bicycles are available for hire here.

For Julien, La Maison des Randonnées represents the spirit of Haybes and its desire to develop its "Green resort" status into a paradise for walkers and cyclists by developing sustainable tourism. The arboretum and conservation orchard are further evidence of this.

A tourist information point has been set up in the old building, and visitors will also find there toilets, cold drinks, local produce, tourist brochures and maps showing suggested walks and itineraries. It's an ideal place from which to explore the forest-covered hills and to follow in the footsteps of slate-miners. One of the suggested walks includes a superb view of Fumay. Others promote the landscape and geological riches of the Ardennes, where water plays an important role and which inspire respect for nature.
