Escape in the City - Nassogne
Discover the town while having fun with your friends or family!
Unravel the mystery hidden in your shoulder bag....
Hello and welcome to Nassogne!
It is said that Saint Monon came in contact with Saint John I Agnus, bishop of Tongeren. Once he was settled in Nassogne, Saint Monon spent his time praying, evangelising the villagers and inviting them to pray with him.
Legend has it that – right before the Saint’s eyes – a wild pig unearthed an ancient bell that Saint Monon thenceforth used to summon his flock to prayer.
But now his bell has mysteriously disappeared and he cannot summon his flock to prayer.
We found this shoulder bag and we suspect that its
solution will lead us to the spot where the bell is hidden...
Do you think you can decipher it and uncover its secret?
A deposit of 50 € is required to borrow the bag.
The game takes place outdoors, so bring comfortable shoes and clothing suited to the weather.
The game is suitable for children aged 10 and over accompanied by an adult.
It lasts approximately 3 hours.

The Saint-Monon collegial church
The Saint-Monon collegiate church, its ancient churchyard and picturesque lane of linden trees planted in 1803, have all been listed by the Royal Commission for Sites and Monuments. The church underwent restoration works in 1948-49 and, according to the chronogram above the entrance porch, the current building dates from 1661. The choir and the apse are built in typical 7th century Romanesque styleand the church nave was rebuilt in 1661.An educational board near the church entrance tells the story of the Holy Monon, a Scottish Monk whocame to Nassogne to evangelize our ancestors around 600. Inside the church, you can admirethe reliquary which contains the holy relics. Saint Monon is the Patron Saint of farmers who invokehis protection for their cattle and their crops. Each year (on the Sunday following Ascension), the reliquary is taken from the collegial church to the Saint-Monon chapel, during the procession that is locally known as the Procession des Remuages (i.e. ‘the riddling procession’). During the procession, the pilgrims, for the vast majority farmers, rub the shrine with handfuls of grass or shrub branches. The blessed crops are then fed to their livestock, in the hope that this will protectthem from harm until the following year.

Saint John the Baptist church
This neo-classical church was built between 1854 and 1855. The central altar has a revolving tabernacle and a painting from the second half of the 18th century represents the beheading of Saint-John the Baptist. Ambly sits astride the Famenne and the Ardennes, and its hilly landscapes offers visitors many magnificent panoramas. This charming village totals approximately 400 inhabitants. Numerous – exquisitely restored – 19th century stone farms are scattered throughout the village, as well as a few half-timbered houses. The village of Ambly was for a long time a bone of contention between the Duke of Luxemburg and the Bishop (also Prince) of Liège. The village remained a fiefdom of the County of Rochefort (and as such, part of Namur) until 1976, when the councils were merged.

La Prée, a pretty little neighbourhood
The 1st house on the right, number 02 is quite an eye-catcher. This long limestone and sandstone farm has a gable dated 1749. The village elders still call it 'Maison Colle’ or the ‘Maison des bourgmestres’. The front door lock is decorated with the Napoleonic eagle, and is, like the rest of the neighbourhood doors, fitted with a door knocker.Rumour has it that during the Revolution, a priest was hidden in this house. The villagers also remember when the whole neighbourhood met at the bakery for the legendary ‘poiret’ (traditional, jam-like pear syrup) and vinegar making evenings. Nowadays, the house is for rent as a self-catering countryside cottage.A long time ago, between the Maison Colle and the brook, there was a building that was called ‘la salinerie’, where saltpetre (that was then sold in Dinant) was produced. On 30 April, 1862, a fire started in this house, killing a small ten year old girl and destroying 9 other houses. The mill, at number 1, dates from 1843 and used to be a sheep farm. Its 1969 buyer not only consolidated the banks of the brook, but also turned the farm into a mill.Among the other - comprehensively restored - buildings, you can admire number 07, and old farm from 1845.
