Baelen : Dragon Mountain Walk

Discover the educational walk of the Dragon Mountain, inaugurated in 2016, and its famous dragon. Sixteen panels mark out the route and take you on a journey presenting the different species of conifers. These panels also deal with various subjects: forest management, flora, fauna, history and the Hertogenwald.

The total height difference of the walk is 326 metres for a length of 14.6 kilometres. Enough to please hikers and mountain bikers!

When you arrive at the Mefferscheid arboretum, you can admire remarkable century-old trees as well as wood carvings made by 3 regional artists. The arboretum was originally created to see which species of coniferous trees were best suited to the region and offers a signposted walk.

You will find some of Belgium's record-breaking circumference trees (the Macedonian pine, the Japanese Parasolier), and some impressively large fir trees. If you wish to reach the arboretum by car, it is advisable to access it from above, via Eupen.

- Start of the walk: Lieu-Dit Perkiets, behind the Friterie Perkiets 1 4837 Membach

- Shoes suitable for walking in the forest.

- Some paths are not accessible for prams and wheelchairs

- Duration of the walk: between 2h45 and 3h15. Loop circuit.
