Carmel

Sanctuary of Saint Renelde
Away from the hustle and bustle, nestled in the greenery of Floreffe, stands the Sainte-Renelde chapel, a place steeped in memory and popular traditions. Built in 1900 by Baron Joseph de Dorlodot following a vow made for his son's healing, this small neo-Gothic bluestone building bears witness to the piety and gratitude of a local industrial family.Behind the chapel flows a spring, long renowned for its healing properties, particularly for skin and eye conditions. Popular belief has maintained a unique ritual: pilgrims would leave clothes or linens that had touched the affected part of their body, in gratitude or in the hope of recovery.Today, the Sainte-Renelde sanctuary still intrigues and attracts believers seeking healing, the curious, walkers, and lovers of unusual heritage. Blending spirituality, folklore, and local history, it remains a living testament to the devotional traditions of Namur.Pleasant walks allow visitors to explore this mysterious site.

Floreffe Quarries
The Floreffe quarries produced dolomite and limestone. They were very prosperous. They were closed in the 1970s. The one near you is nicknamed "La Dolomie" (The Dolomite), and access is strictly prohibited to the public, but is open to divers and fishermen with permission. The Flato quarry is a very vast quarry, about twenty meters deep, but most of it consists of a 10- to 14-meter plateau where divers and fishermen can enjoy a magnificent natural setting.

Floreffe Abbey
Floreffe Abbey was founded in 1121 and still boasts imposing buildings on a promontory overlooking the Sambre valley. The abbey was occupied by the Premontratensian order till the French Revolution and has been housing an important diocesan college from 1819 onwards. You'll find 9th centuries of architecture combined on these formerly fortified foothills. The one hour tour includes the neo-classical abbey church, its famous Baroque stalls, a video montage recounting the history of the abbey, which used to be one of the mightiest ones in our country, and an interesting small museum located in the converted medieval annexes of the abbey church. The former Mill Brewery provides a warm welcome for visitors wishing to taste some abbey products : beers, bread, cheeses. You can round off the tour with a visit to a shop where 12 artisans display their works.
