Ardennes Nature – Gîte La Résonance

José Syne

Comfort but not luxury. José Syne explains the charm of La Résonance. Constructed on a timber frame, it sleeps up to nine adults. Ideal for a weekend break with family members or friends.

Ardenne Nature José Syne

A low-energy building with wood-wool insulation, geothermic heating, solar panels and a heat pump...which combine to create a very pleasant temperature and atmosphere inside.

On a one-hectare plot, shared with another gîte, is the lake, where beginners can learn no-kill fishing. Courts for boules and badminton are located next to the swings and slide.

Guests come here to recharge their batteries. For the swimming pool in the summer and for the jacuzzi in the winter. The sauna and hydrotherapy bath provide opportunities to enjoy the moment and take your time.

La Résonance is 200m from a footpath that runs along the River Ourthe towards Houffalize or La Roche-en-Ardenne, and is an ideal place to immerse yourselves in the forest. Get away from it all, disconnect and recharge your batteries.

José recommends: Ô Cwerbâs Farm

David Craenhals farms his smallholding the old-fashioned way, with a horse, a plough and a harrow. He grows vegetables that can be stored - carrots, onions, leeks, marrows and potatoes, as well as wheat and spelt that are ground into flour at the watermill at Cherain, where Séverine and Benoît mill flour from ancient varieties of cereals and sell it direct to several local bakeries.

David tries to use his smallholding to be self-sufficient. On his 6 hectares he keeps sheep, cows, calves, chickens and bees. In his orchard, he grows traditional varieties of fruit, including apples, pears, plums and cherries, as well as quinces, chestnuts, walnuts and medlars.

David also puts his traditional techniques at the service of Gouvy council, to maintain their footpaths by letting his horse graze them or by scything the grass, or using secateurs and saws in places the mowing machines cannot access.
